The Westin Hotel Seattle - Don’t Stay Here! (I’d Like it All to Myself …

One of the great things about visiting Seattle is that there are many great hotels to choose from, whether you’re going with by yourself or with your family. One of the hotels you might want to consider on your next trip is the Westin Hotel Seattle.

The Westin Hotel is located in downtown Seattle at Westlake Shopping Center monorail. It’s one of the tallest hotels in the city at nearly fifty stories and even though some people think it looks like a couple of corncobs sticking out into the night sky, it’s a pretty cool place to stay.

So what’s it got?

For one thing, it’s right in the heart of downtown next to all the shopping and a ton of attractions like the Space Needle, Science Center, etc. For another, there is a pool at the hotel which might not seem like much but many of the hotels in Seattle don’t have pools so this is one where the kids will enjoy staying.

However, probably the best thing about staying at the hotel has got to be the view. Depending on which room you’re in, you’ll get an incredible shot of either downtown, the Puget Sound, or even possibly the Olympic Mountains.

What’s missing?

There’s always something to complain about right? :)

Well, while I enjoy staying at the Westin (who wouldn’t with those views, right?), there are some things that could be changed to make the hotel stay a little nicer.

First of all, the hotel itself could use a little updating. One of the worst things is when you go into a hotel room, step inside the bathroom and open up the shower curtain which reveals a less than modern shower/tub. There’s just something that kind of freaks me out about old showers in nice hotels. I know, I’m weird, but if you’re the same way, you’ll understand what I mean.

The other thing that is sorely missing from the Westin (and probably most hotels in the downtown Seattle area) is decent-priced parking. Now I know that parking in Seattle and Bellevue is expensive and that land is at a premium, but if I’m paying a couple hundred bucks a night for a room, I start to feel a bit ripped off when I have to shell out an additional $30-$40 a day just to have my car in a parking spot. I don’t mind paying some money for parking, but that amount seems kind of ridiculous to me.

In the end…

I’d still choose to stay at the Westin over some of the other hotels in downtown Seattle. The amenities and convenient location really make up for some of the things that are missing and it’s a decent place you can stay at with your family, which is what I’m after most of the time.
